Lucie - fiddle, mandolin
Matthew - guitar, banjo
Callum - bodhran, cajon, pandeiro
Laura - guest dancer!
Lucie, the fiddle player and Matthew, the guitarist, have both been playing for many years and are classically trained. Callum has been playing percussion and drum kit for a couple of years, but only started playing the bodhran 12 months ago.
Lucie was the first to venture into folk music when she picked up a leaflet about a fiddle folk session at a local pub. After attending her first session she was hooked. This also introduced her to a local Arts Project, Ryburn 3 Step, where she met professional/semi-professional folk musicians, singers and dancers. This has lead to her playing fiddle for Appalachian step dancers and becoming a member of the Ryburn Longsword Dance team. In true family spirit, Lucie quickly roped her brothers in, not only to play with her in Folk on Fire, but also to go to folk sessions and Appalachian step classes with her.
Folk on Fire are influenced by many different folk artists including Uiscedwr, Sean Keane, Boldwood, Mary Humphreys and Anahata, and the American fiddle player, Rodney Miller. When possible they go to Ryburn Folk Club and play in folk sessions around the Halifax area.
