RIDER are a five piece alternative rock band from the Midlands, UK.
For the past three years and from the heart of the Midlands, five musicians under the guise of 'RIDER' have been furiously writing, rehearsing, recording and performing their unique cocktail of dark, quirky, riff-based alternative rock.
The band was formed late in 2006 by brothers Aaron, Jay and Rich Lang and fellow friends/musicians Simon Lee and Steve Taylor. The bands musical influences could not be further apart; but as a result, the bands sound could not be more captivating.
In April 2007 Rider recorded their first self titled 4 track EP and worked hard playing gigs across the UK. They immediately received positive feedback on the live shows, particularly praising them for polished performances, and a huge live sound. Encouraged by the response to the first EP and with an ever growing fan-base, Rider returned to the studio to record new material. In November 2007 they released their second EP 'Afterthought', a powerful and emotive collection of tracks which really encapsulated the bands sound and direction.
One of the bands many highlights came in December 2007, when over a series of five live shows Rider became winners of the 'Touch FM Across the Midlands' Battle of the Bands', scoring maximum points from the judges and public radio vote in all heats, quarters and semi finals.
May 2008 saw the band release their third EP 'Your Motion'. This was a much more polished and upbeat release. Your Motion received shining reviews and local media attention, which empowered and encouraged Rider to continue performing and writing amid an ever dwindling live music scene.
In the year that followed, Rider continued to reap the rewards of their hard work. In June 2009 they won 'Ben Sherman Unsigned' and a slot at the Guilfest festival. In September 2009 the band were shortlisted to the final 16 by Island Records in a competition ran by Metro newspaper.
In the midst of these successes, Rider continued to churn out demos which would eventually contribute towards a fourth CD release. After 8 months of recording and fine tuning the tracks the band are set to release 'IV' in December 2009.
