The Retros are a musical duo who sing & play popular hits from 1952 to 2007 to raise money for CLIC Sargent; a recent merger of Cancer & Leukaemia in Children with Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
The Retros do not charge or accept any fees or expenses: All donations, including contributions from venues, are collected in official sealed cans which are opened & counted in the presence of a witness and a cheque for the full amount sent to the charity which provides acknowledgement letters for forwarding to the venues.
The Retros are Dave & Rob who used to play in a function band with John, a very talented musician, who was defeated by liver cancer at the age of 40.
Shortly after John s departure, the Retros were formed in his memory and they made their debut at a friend s garden party in September 2002 before starting their public performances.
The Retros perform at pubs & social clubs, mainly in the east Berkshire/south Buckinghamshire area typically raising around 200 an evening from customer donations encouraged by soliciting song requests and supplemented by raffles/auctions/sponsorship etc.
Together with the proceeds of playing at several private functions and donations from friends & business sponsors, nearly 50,000 has been raised for the charity as of March 2010.
The hallmark of the Retros is their inventive vocal harmonies together with Rob s versatile guitar accompaniment supported by state-of-the-art technology to add other instruments & voices: No pre-recorded backing tapes are used; what you hear is what is actually being played & sung!
