The band have played together for many years, but Tourdion was only officially formed in 2011.
We can also "call" the dances, in a similar manner to a barn dance or ceilidh band. We play all the most popular dances bourr es, waltzes, mazurkas, scottishs and andros as well as lots of regional specialities, especially from the South of France. Most of the dances are fairly simple and easy for novices to pick up quickly, though experienced dancers will also find them interesting.
We are equally at home playing for a "bal" (like a barn dance or ceilidh, but with added je ne sais quoi!) or in a concert setting. We have played for dances at venues ranging from national folk festivals to small village halls.
Being veterans of the UK folk scene, our band can also provide a unique mix of English and French traditional tunes, songs and dances, and can tailor our set to special occasions and events such as a town twinning association's dance or concert, mediaeval re-enactments, Continental markets etc.
Traditional French dance music a treat for the ears, a treat for the feet!
